I'm was currently riding the icon and it really wasn't that bad, they only told us it will take 2-3 hours until it's safe to go so other people went back to Costa Maya but other people stayed 😅 but THANK GOD it actually took 15 minutes until we where back on board - the staffs offered refreshers such as water 💧 and water! 😅

Comment on the video. In the use of LNG fuel, marine diesel is usually also used as part of the mixture. The use of LNG itself is not the main fuel.

Ugh. I live in NYC, and actually prefer to sail out of Manhattan. The amount of pollution from all the vehicles and structures literally within view of these piers Greatly dwarfs whatever the occasional cruise ship puts out. We might get 3-4 ships on a Saturday/Sunday tops. As for benefits, pretty sure the cabbies and pier staff appreciate jobs and pay taxes, and so do the shops and hotels used by those taking the cruises. These two sound like two twits looking to score green points while going after what looks like an easy target.

i am on the ship rn and was on it when the fire broke out. power did go out, and elevators did not work. one of the downsides was the the captain said he would give us an update about what happened but never did.

Just went on my first and last Carnival cruise earlier this month. You put it perfectly with lack of respect. From a group of young men starting a football game right in the middle of where everyone was sitting on Half Moon Cay ( literally stomping all over people and their belongings) to fist fights in the hallways. Also after 10 or 11 more places than not around the ship reeked of pot. Literally saw 2 security officers during the whole cruise. Its a shame, it had the potential to be really nice.

Putting a real picture of the ship with a photoshopped attempt to make it look like it's on fire (you've clearly spent a fair amount of time to get the fire looking as real as possible for the thumbnail. This is not even a 5 min photoshop), then posing a setup shot with your hands over your mouth for a faked shock look for the camera and then titling the video "on fire"... Yeah, you're the kind of RUclipsr we DON'T need. Honestly, how pathetic an attempt to get views.

A bravo call doesn’t always mean fire, actually on 15 cruises with Royal Caribbean in the last two years. There have been several announcements from the bridge/cruise directors calling “alpha” and “bravo” there was no fires then. People have heart attacks, strokes, and or other major medical issues. One time Jewel of the seas went back to San Juan because it was faster than medivacing them out with a helicopter.

Small fire was in crew area. Enough said.

Thank you Midships for the info (I have family going aboard & did not know about the new fuel info), that being said ---the bigger they are the harder they fall. The cruise industry has gotten so greedy we all need to keep updated or there will be a disaster.

Started on Carnival 21 years ago. It was great and classy. About 10 years ago we noticed the subtle changes and now well now it’s pure trash all the way! Will not go on Carnival again.

Note: They departed on time and are en route to next stop. So it coultn have been much of a big deal. Sounds like the crew was awesome and reacted quickly and resolved the issue. Seems like a perfect end result. To expect no issues ever on a ship that size is illogical. PS: Not on the ship but my Son is 🙂

I've been a travel agent for over 30 years now and I have to say that the cruise lines are such hypocrites - on one hand saying how "they love their travel partners'' (travel agents) and on another they would do anything to get a direct booking and don't have to pay commission. Lots of cruising public doesn't know that if you book your cruise with a travel agent - the least you get is the same price/promotions that the cruise lines offer, but very often you may get some extra amenities from the travel agency - or even sometimes a better price. Lots of the larger agency consortiums negotiate something called: " group pricing contracts". You don't have to travel in a group to get advantage of these group perks/prices. And they all are combinable with any promotion that the cruise line has to offer at the booking moment. Even if there were no perks and the prices were exactly the same - it's to your advantage to book with a travel agent - as if you call a cruise line and talk to their call centers - you will find that some of these agents have never been on a cruise before. This is especially true after the pandemic when the cruise lines lost so much money and they are trying to recap that. Many call centers are located in third world countries like the Philippines. Or they have people working for cheap salaries from homes in the Caribbean. When I'm on my calls with the cruise lines reservations - I often hear roosters, bikes, or children crying in the background. I'm finding that some of these people are making mistakes and often giving me some incorrect info. Plus they will not suggest anything from their own experience - because they don't have any first hand experience. They are just order takers. I won't mention any of the cruise lines names, but they are some of the biggest cruise companies in the world. Also - if you use a reputable travel agent - they can help you in other aspects of your trip, or if you have some kind of a complain/needing help during or after your trip. Personally, when I"m on a cruise vacation I don't solicit to get bookings (have lots of loyal cruise clients already), but if someone is asking what do I do for a living - I would tell them. I think if the general public would know the booking info above - they would not hesitate to use a travel agent for their next cruise. At my agency we don't charge any extra fees for booking a cruise. Even if you book your next cruise onboard - you can turn over that cruise to a travel agent with no consequences to you and you will get all the possible perks. There is a time limit though - so it's best to do that right after you get back from your trip. Hope this info helps some of you that are on the fence to use a travel agent - or book directly.

The cruise lines need less preoccupation with building 'em bigger, longer, and with more gadgetry and focus more on engineering/operations due diligence. Whether powered by diesel or LNG, this is outrageous. Get the bugs out first before we are subject to a major maritime disaster!!!!

That Liquified Natural Gas tank on the Icon makes that cruise ships one of the largest b-o-m-b-s afloat. Would not want to be within 2 miles of that ship if a fire breaks out near that tank.
